About

Studio

STOA Studio Of Architecture was founded in Athens in 2017. Departing from the 'common ground' of the Athens School of Architecture, we specialise in all fields of architectural design, from the urban scale to that of interiors. The holistic approach of our work is based on the interdisciplinary collaboration of scientists and designers of different specialties (urban design, spatial analysis, architectural design, material science, construction, visualisation, art direction, scenography, industrial design). We consider this heterogeneous synthesis to be a necessary condition of design in the modern era. Unchained from impermanent architectural trends, we seek authentic and modern solutions, inspired by visual and performative arts, human studies and space theory. Our work includes design studies and constructed projects of commercial, residential and public spaces, urban design projects as well as ephemeral scenography projects for cinema, theater and festivals.

Founders

Alexandros Kappas

Alexandros Kappas studied at the Architectural School of the National Technical University of Athens (2013) and at the Inter-Departmental Postgraduate Courses at the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA, Materials Science and Engineering (2017). His postgraduate research, which has been presented at international conferences, was to provide innovative solutions for the production and harvesting of algae cells, as well as the scaling up of their reproduction systems, in order to achieve economic viability of microalgae biomass. In 2008, he started his professional career in the field of architecture in collaboration with various architectural offices, while at the same time working at his own projects which included the design and construction of private residential projects, art installation in music festivals, interactive audiovisual installations and set design for theatrical plays.

Margarita Malliri

Margarita Malliri studied at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens. She then attended the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program of the NTUA "Research in Architecture: Architectural Design - Space - Culture", where she had the opportunity to study the processes of aesthetic representation of culture through concepts such as semiology, symbolism and social construction. Her interest for the small scale and the direct contact with the produced object led her to the field of jewellery. She attended intensive courses of jewellery design and making in Athens and Florence (Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence) and she approaches architecture and jewellery as two complementary fields on the processes of analysis and synthesis. During the period 2013-2016 she worked at the Greek construction company AKTOR SA, both in the construction supervision field as well as the preparation of BoQs (Bill of Quantities) for large scale projects. At the same time, she was active as a freelancer architect in the field of interior design by undertaking the design and supervision of private projects.

Her diploma thesis titled "Motion of Bodies and Topology of Architectural Space", aims at the chorological approach of everyday movement aiming at enriching the tools of architecture in the composition and observation of the space. She also developed a special interest in research on parametric and algorithmic design, participating in seminars organized by AA. (Architectural Association) and iMAL (Center for Digital Cultures and Technologies).
